Saturday, Oct 22, 1887 Dark & cold with North wind. Snow fell in Delaware Co. last night. I went down town and gave Sam Coykendall my note for $750 to renew the one coming due Oct 25 and paid him the discount for six [?]. He was very kind and obliging and when he asked me how I was getting on, I answered, pretty well but still with worries. I told him our school tax was due today and I had no money to pay it. He immediately offered me his check and said I had better pay it. I am to give him my note and pay when I can. I am not responsible for the school tax, but now having paid it, I have the note to pay. I saw John McEntee and he advises the sale of the horses, cows etc. and is inclined to think it would be as well to let Booth foreclose the mortgage and sell the property in that way. I am not sure of that. Calvert is coming up tonight to go to the Mts. with Thurber and we will get together and decide on something. I paid the school tax, J. S. McEntees, heirs of J. S. Mc., Mine, and Calverts amounting to 136.78. Last year I think it was about $133 in all. Tom commenced today getting in the beets. Calvert & Frank Thurber came up on the City of Kingston. They came here and spent the evening and went back to sleep on the boat so as to go out on the train to Thurbers place in the morning. Mary came about the same time by W. S. rail road.
