Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, January 21, 1888, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Saturday, Jan 21, 1888 The cold continues. Came home by 4 o'clock train. Very cold. Armstrong was on the train and we sat together a little while and talked of the satisfactions of a country life and the interest of the winter landscape. He told me he had six children--one only 5 weeks old. Rode down from the station in a sleigh. Bitterly cold. Sara went over and rode on the toboggan slide but I preferred sitting in front of the fire. She has a new toboggan suit which she made and which is very pretty and becoming. It was 5 below zero when she returned about 10 oclock.
