Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, January 16, 1889, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Wednesday, Jan 16, 1889 This morning I bought a new traveling bag and two pairs of shoes and also a hat for Dwight which I had sent by Express. While I was at [Carnmeyers?] trying my shoes Lieut. Stamper who belongs to Andrews regiment and whom I last saw at Fort Bridger came in and sat down beside me. He was surprised to see me. Was just about leaving for Washington where he is with his wife on leave. Have painted on my picture of birches all day and improved it. Agnes and Bowyer dined with us and after dinner we all played poker. It rained when I went over to dinner.
