Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, July 22, 1889, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Monday, July 22, 1889 The beautiful days continue. While I was down town this morning I went down to the stone yard of Hewitt Borce to inquire about a stone for Maurices grave and found it would cost $30 exclusive of the lettering and putting up which would cost about $20 to $25 additional, but I did not order it. This afternoon I intended to go over to my studio but I got Sara to stand for me in the garden for a figure in my picture and I also painted on little Florence. Mr. Houghtaling so far has not noticed my note sent to him on the 9th.
