Summary: Scrapbook of Edwin Deakin consists of 137 pages of clippings, mainly from San Francisco publications, and pertaining primarily to artists and art events in California from 1872-1881. Journal of Robert Deakin, father of the painter Edwin Deakin, consisting of approximately 50 pages, contains a family genealogy, clippings and handwritten transcriptions of newspaper articles and letters pertaining to family history, as well as entries regarding his emigration to the United States.
Biographical/Historical Note
Painter, born Sheffield, England. Settled in Chicago in 1859. Moved to San Francisco, California in 1870. Painted landscapes of Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, and a series on the 21 Franciscan missions which he published in 1900. Edwin Deakin's works are included in the collections of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, M. H. de Young Memorial Museum and the Oakland Museum, Oakland, California.

The donor, Marjorie Dakin Arkelian, is the granddaughter of Edwin Deakin.
