Elihu Vedder papers, 1804-1969, bulk 1840-1923

This series consists of drafts, manuscripts, typescripts, and illustrations for various books that Vedder wrote late in his career after he had stopped painting, including his autobiographical book, The Digressions of V (1910), and his books of verses, Miscellaneous Moods (privately printed in 1915), Thoughts While Dressing and Undressing (seemingly never published), and Doubt and Other Things (1922). Also found are drafts and manuscripts of various poems, essays, and stories, some of which may have been incorporated into his books, as well as notebooks and fragments; and some writings by others, including poems by Henry W. Austin, Florinda Brown, and others, and a copy of Nola Tutag's dissertation on Vedder, "A Reconstruction of the Career of Elihu Vedder" (1969).
