Description: Recording has hum and muffled speech. Side 01 recording begins with audio of segment of TV news program ABC Channel 7 "Weekend News" on August 12, 1984. Topic is the different attitudes towards graffiti in New York City. Three photographs of Jack Stewart are included in the program. Side 01 recording starting 00:03:18 and Side 02 recording is Jack Stewart's conversation with graffiti artists Bama and Wicked Gary, recorded November 14,1984. Discussion topics include relationships between individual artists and groups of graffiti artists, influences, copying styles and images, history of graffiti in New York City starting in 1970, attitudes of non-graffiti artists towards graffiti, and graffiti groups as a way to escape joining street gangs. Part of discussion is supported by looking at photographs. Numerous graffiti artists mentioned include Coco, Tracy, Riff, Stitch, Taki and Wasp. Notes copied from the tape: Bama (Amrl) and Wicked Gary (WG). Interviewees are not introduced on the recording. Their naming relies on notes copied from the tape.
