Description: Peale, writing from Philadelphia to an unidentified person, gives a derogatory opinion of William Dunlap's History of the rise and progress of the arts of design in the United States (New York, 1834), and further discourses about his reminiscences and advises his correspondent, an art historian, to "delineate nothing but truthful sketches" in his writings.
