Summary: The papers of painter and educator Marion Huse measure 1.4 linear feet and date from 1884 to 1985. Found are biographical materials, personal and professional correspondence, scattered sales records, printed material, and five sketchbooks. Photographs depict Huse and the Huse family, her homes and a studio in Springfield, Massachusetts--possibly a class of the Springfield Art School.
Biographical/Historical Note
Marion Huse (1896-1967) was a painter, printmaker, and administrator in Massachusetts. She ran the Springfield Art School in Springfield, Massachusetts and participated in the Works Progress Administration Federal Art Project. Huse was an early adopter of the seriograph.
Provenance
Donated 1999 by Fuller Museum of Art, which received the papers through Huse's executor, along with over 5,000 paintings and works on paper comprising the Marion Huse Collection.
