Unboxed Lunch is a 30-minute online program that takes visitors on a behind-the-scenes journey of archival discovery.  One of the Archives' staff guides viewers through the process of exploring a newly acquired collection.

During each Unboxed Lunch event, we feature a different set of papers. Below you can register for upcoming sessions, and view past recordings in case you missed an Unboxed Lunch event.

November 2021 - Through digitization and the Archives’ partnership with the Smithsonian Transcription Center, we explore the life of painter and educator Mel Casas from many points of view.
June 2021 - Josh T Franco, national collector, dives into a new collection: the records of Women & Their Work, a nonprofit arts organization in Austin, Texas.
April 2021 - National collector Josh T Franco leads viewers through the personal papers of painter Frederick Hammersley and George Apodaca, digital archivist at the Archives, guides a behind-the-scenes tour of our born-digital program.
February 2021 - National collector Josh T Franco shares materials from the newly acquired Nela Arias-Misson collection, leading a discussion about the Cuban-born abstract expressionist painter and sculptor’s life and work.
December 2020 - Join Josh T Franco, national collector , as he explores the recently acquired collection of woodworker, designer, and teacher, Emil Milan, for the first time.

December 2021 - For the one-year anniversary of Unboxed Lunch, national collector Josh T Franco shares materials from silverpoint artist, curator, and writer Susan Schwalb’s papers.
July 2021 - Josh T Franco, national collector, explores the papers of writer, educator, and pointillism artist Dudley Huppler for the first time.
May 2021 - During this event, Jacob Proctor, the Gilbert and Ann Kinney New York Collector, dives into one of the Archives’ newest collections, the personal papers of critic and cultural historian Michèle Cone.
