Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Saturday, January 31, 1874, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Saturday, Jan 31, 1874- Two ladies called to look at pictures and asked my prices for my larger pictures but went away without buying. Girard and I went home by the Wallkill Valley. Girard made a revelation to me on Sunday which rather took me by surprise and which calls for forbearance and sympathy from me. I shall try to be equal to the emergency.
