Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Sunday, March 8, 1874, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Sunday, Mar 8, 1874- We went to hear Mr. Frothingham preach this morning. His sermon was an excellent one on material and spiritual interests. He preaches my ideas nearer than any one else I hear, and is thoroughly practical and with a fervent belief in the Divinity of Humanity. After church I wrote some letters and sent off some checks as follows. To my father $100. My Mother $25. Tappan & Co 83.81. Miss Lamont $100. Mrs F[?] $23 and Miss [?] $23. It was bright and sunny when we went out but we have had snow squalls since.
