Gifford and Eastman Johnson dined with me last night. Today and yesterday have been at work on a study for the Wilson picture. I wish people would leave me untrammeled. I find it very difficult to keep their ideas in accord with my own. Van Derlip sent me tickets to a lecture in Dialect Humor at Association Hall by [blank] Andrews. It was mostly made up of anecdotes which he related with effect. It was very entertaining. Mrs. Marcus Spring and her son called. What a sentimental old lady. She bores with a small gimlet. My cold sticks to me. Weeks came for me yesterday to go to a wedding reception but I felt so badly I had to decline. Have coughed incessantly today.
