Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Friday, July 2, 1875, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Sara, Gertrude, Maurice and I drove up High Falls by Lucas' Turnpike, called on Annie Norton and came home through Stone Ridge stopping under a tree to eat our lunch. It is beautiful about Stone Ridge and I should like to make some sketches about there. Stopped and looked along the Kingston Creek in Marbletown where I mean to go make some sketches. Got home about 4 oclock and found Bowyer, Fred Stedman and Arthur Thatcher here. Sara received a long letter from Lucy giving her a detailed account of her journey. She evidently had a fearful time although she went under the best auspices, but the fact is it is too long and trying a journey for a woman with children. I shall await anxiously more news from her for I am afraid they will be sick after so many trials.
