Jervis McEntee Diaries

Thursday July 1, 1875

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Thursday, July 1, 1875, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Pa's brothers left for home on Wednesday morning. Uncle Philip had not been well and looked very feeble. I think they all felt this was the last time they would ever come here as they are very old men. My father went with them as far as Uncle Philips. I have nearly finished my picture and I think in some respects it is better than the original one. Had a nice letter from Booth inviting us to visit him which we mean to do. Wrote to Eastman Johnson and received a letter from Mr. Stafford. A cool delightful day. Painted in the forenoon and after dinner took a long walk down by Steep Rocks and home by the Roatina.
