Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Monday, June 28, 1875, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
The weather has been very hot. After breakfast I went to work to repaint on a new canvas the picture of the "Christmas Greens". During the operation the unfortunate original fell and sustained an additional disaster in the shape of a nic across the face. I made a beginning but am not at all sanguine as to the result. Sunday I wrote to Booth and to Mary.
