We worked too long yesterday hoping to finish but could not after all. Bierstadt has had fair warning that his pictures will not be examined at his rooms and defies the committee who are resolved to oppose his presumption to the bitter end. After dinner I rested until 9 o'clock and went to the Century Monthly where we had invited the rest of our committee. There was a deadlock in voting and all candidates were rejected on account of a question between the club and the committee on admissions. Staid there until midnight. My little winter picture has been sold in the Academy for my price $300 also the "Oer the Sky the leafy deluge Streams" for $1000 and Brown told me last night he had an offer for the "Autumn Idyl" but I declined to abate from my price. He thinks the man will take it. Had a letter from Gertrude last night and have written her today. H. K. Brown & Waugh came to see me this morning.
