Sunday December 8, 1878
Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Sunday, December 8, 1878, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Lucy came to my room after breakfast at my request and I had a confidential talk with her. There was something very unlooked for and almost unaccountable. I slept badly last night and was awake a good part of the time torn with anxieties and doubts and indecision. I came to one conclusion after breakfast and am glad I acted on it in consulting Lucy. I wrote to Mr. Sawyer and to Lang and a short note to Miss Durfee who sent me the pay for my picture "The Year Smiles" nine hundred dollars less commission ten percent, ninety dollars.
