Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, September 13, 1882, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Wednesday, Sept 13, 1882 Beautiful cool weather. Painted on the barn all day. Went down to John McEntees, Andrews & Lucy, Sade and I. Miss Pierce & Lily & Mrs. Livingston were there. Had a lottery for a darning bad which I won and gave to Sade. Sara had a most interesting letter from Lieut. Rory from Ooglaamie, Alaska on Point Barrow 72 degrees North Lat, & within the Arctic Circle written in Feb, with a postscript July 27 when it left by a whaler.
