Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, October 27, 1887, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Thursday, Oct 27, 1887 Grey but not cold. The leaves pretty much blown from the trees about the house. Tom as got in the beets 112 bushels and the carrots from below Girards house. I have been busy putting away my summer clothes and getting out my winter ones. This afternoon I looked over my letters and burned a good many. I went over my vouchers of my account with my father until it grew dark and I also went over the house and added many things to the inventory of the appraisers which they thought were mine. All these preparations for the change in our life make our hold on this old home seem slight and uncertain. I accept it and will be glad when it is all over.
