Art Foundry and Art Foundry Editions Records, circa 1975-circa 2007

Administrative files document Art Foundry and Art Foundry Editions daily operations, and include materials regarding employee safety and operating guidelines; logo and graphics development; equipment guidelines, purchases, and operating instructions; publicity and advertising materials; organizational participation in the ASA and the CSF Visual Arts Advisory Committee; notes on art studio tours taken through the Foundry; history and chronology information about the Foundry; and various mailing lists, contacts lists, and Rolodexes for artists, equipment and suppliers, art dealers, collectors, and galleries.

Correspondence is predominantly professional in nature and is between Dwight Hackett and various artists, galleries, collectors, art dealers, and others.

Eight gallery appointment books document monthly and daily meetings, artist schedules of work, tours, and other items. Six general notebooks contain various items and entries made by Dwight Hackett and other Foundry staff, including calls and messages, contacts, notes about artists and various projects, and other subjects. Eight notebooks are on select artists regarding projects at Art Foundry and Art Foundry Editions.

Found here are materials on Art Foundry and Art Foundry Editions group exhibitions, including an employee show in 1992. Materials may include correspondence, exhibition announcements, photographs, and price lists, among other materials.

Over 132 artists are represented within artists' files, which document original sculptural projects by Phoebe Adams, Terry Allen, Larry Bell, Lynda Benglis, Judy Chicago, Anne Chu, Lesley Dill, Una Hanbury, Jene Highstein, Allan Houser, Luis Jimenez, Win Knowlton, Maya Lin, Juan Muñoz, Bruce Nauman, Gabriel Orozco, Tom Otterness, Susan Rothenberg, David Salle, Fritz Scholder, Peter Shelton, Kiki Smith, Valeska Soares, Richard Tuttle, and many others. Files also represent various restoration projects for select artists' works, such as Roy Lichtenstein and Fernando Botero.

Materials may include correspondence; exhibition announcements; financial statements, invoices, and receipts of payments; negatives, slides and snapshots; plans and diagrams for sculpture projects; digital materials; and sketches and notes, among other materials.

Found here are invoices and statements regarding studio expenditures and miscellaneous purchases, such as casting supplies, equipment, hourly casting rates, and the like. Also found are files on legal discussions with leasing galleries, consignment agreements surrounding artists' works represented in various galleries, among other financial and legal items.

Sculpture production and inventory files are comprised of casting documents and guidelines; casting logs for select and various artists; casting prices and costs; casting records; inventory cards and photographs of works gifted and purchased by the Foundry; and inventory files of specific editions projects at the Foundry. Also found are sculpture production records which document sculptures produced and cast by the Foundry for various artists.

Nine photo albums depict artists and events, and artists at work and installations. Also included are snapshots, negatives, and slides of artists, artists at work, events and installations, and artwork. Those depicted include Dwight Hackett, Terry Allen, Lynda Benglis, Allan Houser, Win Knowlton, Bruce Nauman, Susan Rothenberg, Kiki Smith, Richard Tuttle, among many others. The majority of the photographs in this series were taken by Dwight Hackett.
