Chaz Bojórquez papers, 1956-2017

Professional files document exhibitions, community talks and events, and business dealings. Correspondence found here may include attached deeds for donations, loan agreements, and other business records. Other files document Bojórquez's activities with several graffiti advocacy groups, a ledger that includes a few photographs of artwork, and a press book containing clippings and other printed material. See Series 2 for lecture materials. Materials relating to Bojorquez's website and social media management are in digital format.

Writings include manuscripts and drafts for articles and books by and about Bojórquez. Most of these materials and files relating to lectures given by Bojorquez are in digital format. Also included is an annotated calendar, artist statements, biographical essays, exhibition proposals, interview responses, notes on panel talks and other topics, resumes, and transcripts from the Graffiti World: Symposium MOCA and a talk in Spain.

The series contains over 45 project books for artwork, exhibitions, events and commercial projects for Fendi, Disney, Vans, and other international companies. The books include sketches and drawings, notes, travel documents, price lists, and other material related to the project. Many projects are represented with material exclusively in digital format.

Printed materials consist of announcements, invitations, and stickers designed by Bojórquez, along with clippings, a magazine, and poster. The series also includes one storage box featuring a sticker designed by the artist on the front of the box. Much of the collection was received from the artist in several boxes like the one in this series.

Artwork includes approximately 14 sketchbooks, 4 portfolios and digital materials. The sketchbooks span from the late 1960s to 1988. They include drawings, sketches, preliminary layouts for paintings and formulas, and are interspersed with school notes, journal entries, plans for murals, and other notes. The portfolios and digital folders include sketches and drawings, Bojórquez's artwork as a child, project material, drawings of Bojórquez by others, and a few photographs. Researchers should also look in Series 3 for artwork materials.

The sketchbooks are arranged in rough chronological order.

The series consists of photographs and videos of Bojórquez with friends and family, travels, photograph albums, and works of art. Photographs, slides, and negatives of works of art include images of artworks in progress, clear plastic affixed to Polaroids by the artist in order to experiment with the paintings. Many of the photographs and video recordings are in digital format.
