Portraits of Herbert include a series of contact sheets and one print of portraits taken with Sarah Schmerer, presumably by Hans Namuth, who appears in one of the images.
Photographs of Herbert with family and friends include photos with his parents, a circa 1909 photo of family members, and photos including William Draper and Jaime Andrade. Also found are nine negatives of Herbert with Leon Polk Smith; and a series of color prints (with negatives) taken by Herbert of Hans Namuth photographing Jon Carsman in 1971.
There are two photograph albums, containing primarily color snapshots of Herbert with family and friends, including Jaime Andrade, Leonora Carrington, William Draper, Hans Namuth, and others, from the 1960s and 1970s.The albums have been dismantled and photographs are stored in their original order.
Also found is a series of photographs of Herbert with the Naval Construction Battalion in Japan and Iwo Jima circa 1945-1946. In addition to landscape scenes, the photos include images of army facilities, street scenes in Yokosuka and elsewhere, and Herbert with army colleagues and local friends.
Photographs of artwork by various artists include work by Anthony Caro, Clement, Meadmore, Phillip Pavia, David Smith, and others.
