The files document the predominantly personal trips made by Sheets which were devoted to furthering his painting career. Of particular interest to researchers and scholars will be the folders that deal with his trips under the aegis of the Department of State as an American Specialist. Sheets served as an artist/representative in the USIS department's international cultural exchange program. His trip to the USSR at time when US-USSR relations were beginning to enter into a less tense period gave him a unique opportunity to explore similarities and differences between the arts communities in both nations. This series is arranged alphabetically by subject and then ordered chronologically.
