Jervis McEntee Diaries

Wednesday August 25, 1875

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Wednesday, August 25, 1875, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Went out to Watsons Hollow with my sketching materials and stopped with Mr. John S. Hoyt. Made a sketch in the afternoon but didnt find much I care to do except to get sketches of the children. Thursday morning made a sketch of a little girl feeding chickens and had engaged another one to come at 4 o'clock after school, but feeling a head ache coming on I concluded to come home and go back on Monday, as the school ends on Saturday and I will have a better chance to get the children next week. Found Annie Norton here with Miss Hastings, Mrs Schaffer and Julia. After tea my head ache disappeared. Recd. a letter from Stafford with an article from the Chicago Tribune on the Exposition giving an account of its prospects which seem to be good. We are all pretty troubled and worried over our affairs and I am far from happy. It interferes with my work and I have to make the greatest effort to keep off discouragement.
