Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Wednesday, May 19, 1875, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
The award of prizes to the students of the Academy took place this evening in the galleries the Academy being thrown open free for the evening. Whittredge made a short address and gave the prizes after which Whitelaw Reid spoke for half an hour and very effectively. After the exercises we went down to the Council Room with Ward, Reid, Whittredge, Richards, Eastman Johnson and his wife and myself where we had a glass of champagne and a nice chat for an hour. Altogether it was a very pleasant occasion.
