Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Friday, October 1, 1875, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
A cold North East rain storm. The leaves are beginning to change perceptibly and many have already fallen from the Elms near the house. Painted a little picture this forenoon from a sketch I made from near the Keykout but it is not very successful. The fact is I want to get to making some sketches directly from Nature and to get into a new train of ideas. There is not much interest in working at old ideas that have once been expressed.
