The wind has blown and it is cold. Finished my picture. Calvert and Wood breakfasted with me. Whittredge came in this afternoon and was surprised and pleased to find me here. He went to Geneva three weeks ago. Started from there a few days ago for a general look along the Lehigh Valley R.R. and had his baggage checked to Mauch Chunk. At Ithaca saw a place he would have liked to look at but could not stop. Arrived at Mauch Chunk he was disgusted and went back to Ithaca--meanwhile his money getting rapidly away from him. It was a gloomy day and he traveled about in vain trying to get interested. Wrote his wife a doleful letter and started for the Studio Building where he arrived today. He was relieved to find that I too had foregone my usual fall sketching. He says it is very cold and disagreeable weather in the country and one could not work with any success. Called on Mrs. Lord in 46th St. and came home and wrote to Gertrude as I did last night.
