Sunday, May 13, 1883 A windy day. Downing and I walked across the high bridge. There were some scary gaps but we got over without trouble and walked down the track a mile when we followed a pleasant path along the base of Hussey Hill returning by South Rondout ferry. We talked freely about his affairs and he says he will confide in me hereafter which I think he will. The country is charming now. The cherries are in bloom and the apple trees soon will be. I ought to be there painting.
