Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, May 14, 1883, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Monday, May 14, 1883 Downing and I walked up to the new station at Kingston and went through it returning by the track to Jacobs Valley and home across Ports farm. He wrote to Edwina. Cousin Rachel is there and Sara is gradually cleaning house. I trimmed the vine over the back porch. Yesterday we went to the cemetery and I was delighted to see that the sweet brier I set out on dear Gertrudes grave last spring is leafing out vigorously and looks strong and healthy. I came down by the evening train and found a letter from Alice inquiring about Downing which I answered and mailed.
