This series consists of scrapbooks of clippings, photographs, letters and other material, compiled by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, Flora Whitney Miller, and possibly others. Scrapbooks document aspects of Whitney's early public life (from 1893 to 1896); Whitney's sculpture commissions and exhibitions; the construction and unveiling of the St. Nazaire and Buffalo Bill memorials, among others; art competitions sponsored by Whitney; exhibitions at the Whitney Studio; the field hospital in Juilly, France; horse racing; the death of Harry Payne Whitney in 1930; and the sickness and death of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney in 1942.

Scrapbooks are arranged in chronological order. More detailed descriptions for certain scrapbooks are provided below.

The bulk of the scrapbooks have been scanned; some enclosed printed material has not been scanned.
