Hisako Hibi and Matsusaburo "George" Hibi papers, circa 1906-2022, bulk 1940-1990

This series includes a wide range of printed materials such as exhibition announcements and catalogs, magazines, periodicals, clippings, newsletters, program guides, and calendars. Most of the material is related to Hisako and Matsusaburo "George" Hibi's artwork and exhibitions. Some printed material is about artists the Hibis knew personally, such as landscape painter Chiura Obata and the artist Helen Salz, or artists whose work they appreciated. There are also a few folders dedicated to specific subjects of interest, notably the forced removal and incarceration of Japanese Americans in camps during World War II.

The materials in this series that are about the Hibis are grouped together by type, i.e., clippings, exhibition announcement and catalogs, magazines, etc., and are arranged chronologically within those groupings. Materials about other artists and subjects are grouped together towards the end of the series.

The bulk of the materials in this series have been digitized. Materials which have not been digitized include blank versos of photographs and duplicated. In some cases, exhibition catalogs and other publications have had their covers, title pages, and relevant pages digitized.
