Summary: The scrapbook of painter Jerre Murry dates from 1936 to circa 1941. The scrapbook focuses on Murry's participation in the Works Progress Administration, Federal Art Project and includes a biographical sketch, correspondence, photographs of friends and of works of art, and printed material.
Jerre Murry (1904-1973) was a painter in Southern California. Murry was born in Columbia, Missouri, and studied at the Detroit Academy of Art. He was influenced by Stanton Macdonald-Wright to relocate to Los Angeles and participate in the Works Progress Administration, Federal Art Project. He remained in California where he exhibited his paintings and taught art classes until his death in 1973.
The collection was loaned to the Archives of American Art in 1964 for microfilming by Jerre Murry and was returned after filming.
